Labor force and unemployment data for the North Shore is shown below. As of March 2018, the unemployment rate on the North Shore was 3.6% which is lower than the Massachusetts rate. The labor force in the North Shore has increased in the past year by 1.4% while the number employed has also increased by 1.6% and the number of unemployed decreased by 3.5%. Year to year gains in the North Shore labor force with higher employment figures combined with a decrease in the number of unemployed would signal an increase in the labor force participation rate. The workers returning to the labor force are possibly the long term unemployed and/or new Americans who would benefit from soft skills and hard skills training.
