On Thursday, October 26, MassHire North Shore Workforce Board Executive
Director Mary Sarris was honored at the state’s 14th annual Jobs and Workforce
Summit in Devens, MA. Mary was awarded the Kathie Mainzer Award for
Excellence in Workforce Development, presented by Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll.
The presentation was fitting as the Lt. Governor has worked with Mary while she
was Mayor of Salem and Lead Elected Official of the Workforce Board for many
years. Lt. Governor Driscoll spoke about their shared passion for workforce
development and systems change, noting Mary as an early adopter of new
initiatives designed to improve our region.

Lt. Governor Driscoll shared how Mary has a drive to understand and improve the
community, with a “can-do” spirit, finding a way to get to YES despite challenges.
Mary’s strong partnership within the community, such as employers, elected
officials, comprehensive and technical schools, and colleges, are great assets of
hers that were highlighted as part of the reason the MassHire North Shore Career
Center and Workforce Board are among the strongest in the state.

No surprise, Mary in her remarks thanked her fellow workforce board
colleagues and in particular she called out the staff of the North Shore Career
Center and North Shore Workforce Board as being key to many successes our
region has had in our work.  We are proud of Mary and thrilled to see her recognized at
the state level!
